Dr. Matthew Paulson, DDS
Dr. Matt Paulson was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He attended Wittenberg University where he earned a B.A. degree in Biology before attending the Case Western Reserve College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Paulson enlisted in the army National Guard as an undergraduate and proudly served well into his time as a dental student, eventually graduating with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University in 1997.
Dr. Paulson and his wife moved to Upper Arlington to pursue his first career opportunity in dentistry. He joined a private practice on the southside of Columbus where he was soon offered partnership and eventually became sole owner. After 18 years of ownership, Dr. Paulson sold his practice, and after working for the new owners for an agreed upon amount of time, he joined Schumacher & Bauer in June 2024.
In his time outside of the office, Dr. Paulson likes to get outdoors, particularly enjoying golf, hiking, and snow skiing. He likes to spend his time inside homebrewing, playing chess, and woodworking. Dr. Paulson is a lifelong Buckeye football fan and enjoys relaxing with family and friends when he’s not pursuing one of his many interests outside of work.
"By the time I reached high school, I knew I wanted to be a dentist. The profession provides a great platform for someone who likes to tinker with his hands, has an engineer mind, and wants to help people."
Dr. Theodore Bauer, DDS
Dr. Theodore (“Ted”) Bauer grew up in Ottawa, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, where he was involved in numerous student organizations and student government associations at varying levels, including President of the Inter-Professional Council. Dr. Bauer is a recipient of the Ohio State College of Dentistry Alumni Leadership Award and was recommended to this practice by E. Gordon Gee, then president of The Ohio State University.
Dr. Bauer is a member of the Advanced Dental Concepts Study Club, the Columbus Dental Society, Ohio Dental Association, American Dental Association, the OSU Dental Alumni Society and the Ohio State University Alumni Association. He is an Eagle Scout, a former steering committee member for the Ohio Dental Association Dental OPTIONS program, and has served on the Ohio State Dental Board as an appointee of Ohio Governor John Kasich. Dr. Bauer has traveled to Guatemala multiple times with the CRISP foundation to perform dental services for those in need. A lifelong buckeye fan, he is the son of two Ohio State alumni.
Dr. Bauer and his two sons Will and Nolan live in Upper Arlington where they are gradually renovating and restoring their historic home. When he isn’t taking care of the kids or working on the house, he likes to spend his free time supporting local businesses, causes, and artists.
Dr. Bauer assumed ownership interest in the practice from Dr. David Rummel in 2013.
“At Schumacher & Bauer, I stress education and prevention to empower our patients to keep their dental health needs to a minimum. Dr. Michael Schumacher, DDS
After 40 years of taking care of patients, Dr. Michael Schumacher officially retired from dentistry in December of 2024. While it was a tough choice to fully retire from Schumacher & Bauer, Dr. Schumacher is excited for days filled with playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He has entrusted Dr. Matt Paulson to take care of his patients and knows that he will care for them like he did. Thank you for decades of fantastic dental work, Dr. Schumacher!
