DENTAL IMPLANTS AT
SCHUMACHER & BAUER, DDS
What are dental implants?
When a tooth is missing or can no longer be salvaged, an implant can be placed in the bone to anchor a new tooth. When the implant is placed, your own bone grows into it to give it the stability that is needed. A crown is fixed on top of this implant that looks, feels, and acts like a natural tooth.
Is a dental implant the right treatment for me?
Initially, a diagnostic 3D Cone Beam CT (CBCT) image is taken to determine if getting a dental implant is the best option for you. Provided you are a good candidate, the implant is placed here in the office with regular local anesthetic. Once you are numb, you can’t tell the difference between having an implant placed and a traditional filling. After 4-8 months of healing, we make a crown for you that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth. The entire process usually takes 3-4 visits.
What’s the advantage of getting an implant over other tooth replacement options?
Dental implants only replace the teeth that are missing and do not affect the adjacent teeth. Because they don’t require special tools to maintain like a bridge, and you are able to brush and floss like you always have, they feel more like your natural teeth. Although a dental implant takes some more time and a few more visits up front, the long-term result is superior in every way.
